Queensland's Battery Rebate: Guide for home owners
The QLD Government has launched their Battery Booster program, an initiative designed for Queensland residents with a rebate of $3,000 and $4000 off a solar battery. You can add a battery to your existing solar system or have a new solar and battery system installed.
Island Energy is an approved installer of the Queensland Governments Rebate program and you can verify this on the QLD governments website here.
Standard Rebate: A rebate of up to $3,000 towards your solar battery if your household income doesn't exceed $180,000 for the most recently ended financial year. For couples, the combined income must not surpass this threshold.
Low-Income Rebate: A higher rebate of up to $4,000 if the highest earner in your household earned $66,667 or less in the most recently ended financial year.
Only one battery rebate is available per residential premises, and applications will be processed in the order they are received. Please note that available rebates are limited and the program will close once the allocated funding has been exhausted (‘about 2000’ rebates have been promised).
Eligibility Criteria
To take advantage of the QLD battery rebate, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Own the residential property in Queensland where the system will be installed, including houses, community lots, or granny flats. - Have solar panels with a minimum capacity of 5kW already installed. Island Energy can install new solar PV systems concurrently with the approved battery purchase. - Island Energy will help you choose an approved battery from the pre-approved list, with a capacity of 6 kWh or more. - Engage an approved installer like Island Energy registered on the Authorised Installer list for the system installation. - Request a quote from Island Energy and make the system purchase on or after February 12, 2024. - Fulfil the income requirement, ensuring that the combined household income does not exceed $180,000. - Consent to a safety inspection of the solar battery installation by a designated government inspector.
Claiming your Battery Rebate
Here's a step-by-step guide to navigating the rebate claim process:
1. Get a Quote from Island Energy's residential solar and battery design team. Call us on 1300 534 100 and press option '4' or click 'Get a Free Quote' below
2. Choose a quote to proceed with.
3. Get conditional approval Before outlaying any money, you need to apply for conditional approval from the program. This means submitting an application that includes the quote you decided on. Installing a system before receiving this letter will disqualify you from rebate eligibility.
4. Get the battery installed. You have 90 days from your conditional approval date to have your system installed.
5. Pay the installation invoice.
6. Submit for Rebate Approval. You’ll need to include: - The invoice - Proof of property ownership (rates notice, contract of sale, or building contract). - Income evidence via notice(s) of assessment from the Australian Tax Office for the last financial year. After completing the above, if still eligible, you’ll receive a letter confirming your approved application. Once approved, the rebate will be deposited into your bank account.
